Patriotic Porch Sangria Recipe

As we head into the weekend before the 4th of July holiday, I’ve got my front porch decorated and my Patriotic Porch Sangria already on deck.

This Patriotic Porch Sangria recipe is featured in my Picnics, Potlucks & Porch Parties cookbook as Red, White & Blueberry Sangria so know that it’s the exact same recipe, just renamed because my porch is so darn festive this year that I call it Patriotic Porch Sangria. Whatever you want to call it is a-okay with me!

Patriotic Porch Sangria

If you recall my recent porch decor, this year would appear a bit subdued, but I’m telling you, my porch makes me smile every time I round the corner. I think it quietly screams “Happy America!”.

We’ve swapped our bench for a pair of rockers and while the thought of eating outdoors in this heat is enough to send me over the edge, sipping a festive sangria watching the neighbors go by is right up my alley.

Patriotic Porch Sangria

The Patriotic Porch Sangria couldn’t be easier either, it’s just mixing together wine, champagne, and grape juice, while letting the fruit do the decorating for you. Apple slices become stars and voila, you’ve got a 4th of July drink that will be the hit of the party. Whether it’s a block party, party of 10, or party of 2.

Patriotic Porch Sangria Recipe

Yield: Serves 8
Prep Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour

Festive Patriotic Porch Sangria combines your red, white & blue in a delicious beverage perfect for your holiday entertaining.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle dry white wine
  • 1 cup white grape juice
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 (750-ml) bottle champagne
  • 3-4 Granny Smith apples, thinly sliced (pears would be yummy too!)

Instructions

Stir together white wine, grape juice, blueberries and strawberries in a large pitcher. Cover, and refrigerate 1-4 hours so the flavors can meld (Note: the longer the mixture sits, the more red it will become so it may not look like these photos).
When ready to serve, stir in champagne, apples and ice. Serve immediately.

Notes

TIP: Cut apple slices with a star- shaped cookie cutter (or you could free hand) and immediately add to sangria to prevent browning.

The taste is intensified the longer you leave the sangria in the fridge. It gives the natural flavors from the fruit time to work thier magic. With that being said, it also makes your strawberries a bit soggy and the color more red so I photographed prior to chilling, and removed my apples. I’ll add the apple slices back right before we indulge.

Cheers & happy weekend friends!
