Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel Topping
Say hello to this Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel Topping; with its combination of juicy apples, a bit of spice and oatmeal cookie type topping it is sure to dazzle and delight this Fall baking season.
It’s my latest recipe for my partnership with Dixie Crystals and you’ll find the recipe on their website: Dutch Apple Pie .
Each month though, I talk a bit more in-depth here on my blog about why I choose the recipes I choose for their website, and what makes them special.
Over there, you get the instructions and the recipe and about 2 sentences.
So let’s talk about what makes a Dutch Apple Pie different from your traditional apple pie.
A Dutch Apple Pie replaces its top crust with a streusel rather than a double crust. And you could certainly top with a basic sugar + flour + butter streusel for this pie but why be basic and instead add some oatmeal for a crunchy bite! And if you want to really be daring, don’t forget about my Cream Cheese Dutch Apple Pie I made for my friends at CASA one year.
The topping on this pie is my new favorite streusel combination and I’m even considering topping our sweet potato casserole with it, should I not include this Dutch Apple Pie for the holidays.
You might say that this would be similar to an Apple Crisp Pie since the oats are typically what you see in a crisp recipe, but this is a pie with a crisp top crust and a traditional bottom pie crust. You call it whatever you’d like.
I call it Fall baking apple deliciousness Heaven.
Every day this week, leading up to Thanksgiving I’m going to share a favorite pie recipe. If you remember, I once thought I was going to bake a pie for a week for an entire year. I think I made it a couple of months. Perhaps 2020 will be the year to resume the little project that was 52 Pies Project!
