Pumpkin Pie Spice Lattes

An easy recipe, with minimal ingredients for make at home Pumpkin Pie Spice Lattes that are just as delicious as those from the gourmet coffee shop!

Do y’all know that we are nearing the end of Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Starbucks? It’s true. They go away in January and I find it unfair because we miss so much of pumpkin season still being in the heat down here in the south. Our Fall is not quite Fall-like at all, sometimes.

Pumpkin Pie Spice Lattes

The good news is you can totally (and easily) make Pumpkin Pie Spice Lattes at home. Perfect for those days when the temperatures are much too cold to even think about bundling up just to go get a latte/coffee.

With this easy recipe, you can stay in your pj’s in front of a warm fire celebrating that it is finally suitable timing to enjoy a latte without sweat rolling down your face.

You can actually purchase Pumpkin Pie Spice in the grocery stores these days, but that requires….you guessed it, getting dressed and getting out in the cold. I’m betting you have everything you need in your spice cabinet!

How to Make Pumpkin Pie Spice:

  • 3 Tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves

Combine spices in a small bowl, mixing well. Store in an airtight small jar or spice container.

Why Make Your Own Pumpkin Pie Spice?

Despite the obvious, not having to leave the warm and cozy of your home, it can be used in a variety of recipes you are probably considering making. And, making your own spice blend ensures that the spices stay nice and fresh because you are making the batch in smaller quantities.

Other uses for Pumpkin Pie Spice:

You can use your freshly made, from scratch Pumpkin Pie Spice in your lattes, but you can also use it in pies, breads, cookies, cakes, flavored whipped cream, or this Whipped Pumpkin Pie Dip.

You can also gift it and include a recipe card for using it to make Pumpkin Pie Spice Lattes of their own. Just include the recipe card with a couple of glass mugs, a can of pumpkin puree and your homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice and you’re all set for a thoughtful gift to your pumpkin pie loving friends or neighbors.

Pumpkin Pie Spice Lattes

Yield: 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

The quintessential Fall beverage created with minimal ingredients and tastes just like a gourmet coffee shop Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 Tablespoons pumpkin puree, or to taste
  • 1 Tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 cup brewed coffee
  • Optional:
  • Whipped cream
  • Nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon for garnish

Instructions

In a saucepan, whisk together milk, pumpkin puree and light brown sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until hot and steamy but not boiling. Remove from heat, whisk in the pumpkin pie spice and vanilla. Slowly add the coffee and continue to whisk until frothy. Taste and adjust sweetness with extra sugar, top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of additional pumpkin pie spice.

Notes

This recipe tastes best with whole milk, or at minimum, 2% but can be substituted with skim milk, soy or almond milk.

I’ve topped my lattes with an extra sprinkle of Pumpkin Pie Spice because I just can’t get enough of it’s Fall flavoring, but you can also top with additional nutmeg or cinnamon. However you choose to top it, be sure to indulge at least once this holiday season. It’s the perfect beverage for after Thanksgiving dinner is over and you’re just hanging around with family.
