Quick & Easy Hurricane Punch

My Quick & Easy Hurricane Punch is a super easy way to enjoy all the flavors of a Hurricane Cocktail without all the work. With only 4 ingredients, you’ll be sipping in no time.

As we wrap up our Hurricane preparations, it dawned on me I’ve never shared my Quick & Easy Hurricane Punch with you. And well, since I’m whipping up a batch to turn into popsicles, I figured now is as good of a time as any.

I typically make and call this punch my Mardi Gras punch because that’s generally when I make it, but the flavors are similar to a Hurricane cocktail and since Baton Rouge is anticipating Hurricane Barry in less than 12 hours, I’m going to call it Hurricane Punch.

Unlike a Hurricane Cocktail, you need not worry with tracking down passion fruit juice, two types of rum and making simple syrup. You could include both dark and light rum, like a traditional Hurricane if want to really be authentic, but for me, I find that just the light rum is sufficient enough to keep me happy.

Nope, no complicated ingredients here…you just dump a bunch of juice and rum together and call it a day.

And can I tell you, the people of Baton Rouge are ready to call it a day. The anxiety in this city is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Not because we don’t know how to deal with a tropical storm, or a category 1 hurricane. No, not at all. We can deal with those things in our sleep.

What we can’t, or don’t want to deal with is the potential flooding this much rain could bring….impending rain that is giving us flashbacks to 2016 when a tropical depression stalled and flooded out thousands and thousands of homes.

We didn’t flood in 2016 so while I’m hopeful that we won’t flood, there still is the anxiety that comes with the what if’s:

What if we were saved in 2016 because it’ll get us this time?

What if the already high levee breaches and wipes out that area of Baton Rouge?

What if I have to evacuate with 5 dogs (3 I own and the 2 I’m fostering)? OMG, would that be a sight or what?!

What if, what if, what if.

I’ve lived my entire life in Louisiana (minus a couple years I daringly lived just outside of Kansas City)  and what I have come to realize is that you cannot control the what if’s. All you can do is prepare for the worst and pray for the best.

What I’ve also come to realize is that if you’re going to live in an area prone to Mother Nature’s fury, at least you have the Cajun Navy on your team should things get outta hand.

I’m thankful that I’ve checked in with or been checked on by nearly all the neighbors on my street. I’m thankful that both our cars are filled with gas, the dogs (and us) have overnight bags packed and on the ready with an evacuation plan in place, the generator has started up like a charm and there’s enough gas to keep us cool, our refrigerator cranking and our electronics charged keeping us in contact with our family should we lose power. The pantry is stocked with non-perishables and the Hurricane Punch is chilling.  I’m probably over-prepared at this point.

What I cannot control is a flood so for that I’ll just keep praying and ask that you send a couple our way as well.

Have a happy and safe weekend!
