Beach Bum Rum Cocktails

Spring has sprung in these parts, which means Summer is close behind….also meaning it’s nearly time to plan those vacations and break out the Beach Bum Rum Cocktails!

Beach Bum Rum Cocktail

To be honest, I don’t enjoy the beach. I have a heart condition that prevents me from overheating and I am one of the rare people that actually does not enjoy the sand between my toes.

I do, however, enjoy late night beach strolls, a room with a view, and a balcony built for cocktail sipping.

And when I can’t get away to the beach, and the temperatures in Louisiana threaten to melt me like chocolate left inside a warm vehicle, I opt to bring the beach to my front porch.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces coconut rum
  • 1 ounce amaretto
  • 8 ounces fresh orange juice
  • 1 ounce grenadine
  • pineapple wedges/ maraschino cherries (garnish)

Instructions

Add the coconut rum, amaretto, orange juice and ice in a cocktail shaker and shake with; strain over more ice into chilled glasses. Add a splash of grenadine on top of each cocktail, and garnish each cocktail with a pineapple wedge and/or a maraschino cherry.

And speaking of bringing the beach onto the porch….I added a bit of “sand” to my serving tray. You can find a small bag of sand at the craft store (found mine at WalMart on the aisle with the faux flowers). And because I added sand, well, what’s a beach cocktail without an umbrella?

You’ll find everything you need for beach inspired porch sipping on the Wayfair  website;  cocktail glasses, my mason jar shaker, and even the drink umbrellas.

There’s nothing more beach-inspired than the taste of coconut, and the addition of grenadine gives the cocktail a bit of sunrise looking color without altering the taste too much. Just don’t get too sad that the drink layers won’t stay separated. As quickly as I got the photographs snapped, mine were already starting to merge.

The grenandine was added last to the the cocktail on the left, and first to the one on the right. By the time I decided it would look better in photos to move the layered to the front, with the two merged on the back row, they were all merged.

Sigh.
