You could say that football season threw up in my kitchen this weekend. If there wasn’t purple and gold ribbon tying up LSU tailgating favors, then there was black and gold pom poms lying around for Sunday’s noon game aka an impromptu Saints Football Porch Party.
Our weather dipped a little this weekend and it had me all excited to watch the game on the back porch. And not that it was really cool enough for gumbo, but I whipped that out too!
Nothing quite like game day + seafood gumbo!
Unlike a traditional “football” party, I kept things more casual and luncheon like rather than sports bar or football like. No tables decorated like a field. No fake grass holding up a cake or cupcakes. No touchdown banners anywhere in sight.
Instead…..you know how a progressive dinner starts at one home with an appetizer, then heads to the next home for the 2nd course, then makes it way so on and so forth until it wraps things up at the dessert host home? I sort of took that notion and modified it into a progressive football watch party, but all at one home, er… my back porch!
Each quarter of the game represented a course.
Kick-off began with Spicy Chicken Deviled Eggs served alongside beer & cocktails during the 1st quarter.
Deviled eggs are somewhat a staple at any Southern gathering and that includes football parties.
These little things couldn’t be easier since the Honey BBQ Seasoned Tyson Any’Tizers are pre-cooked already. You simply heat and eat.
Or, in my case turn into some Spicy Chicken Deviled Eggs Appetizers.
- 12 hard boiled eggs-peeled
- 1/2 c. mayo
- 1 c. Tyson Any’Tizers- Honey BBQ (removed from bone, then finely chopped)
- ***I used Honey BBQ flavored for this recipe***
- 1/4 c green onions, chopped
- 2 tsp creole mustard
- 1 1/2 tsp Tabasco sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
- Cut the peeled eggs in half lengthwise and place yolks into a mixing bowl. Set the whites aside on a deviled egg platter. Combine the egg yolks with the mayo, chopped chicken wings, green onions (save a few for reserve topping/garnish), creole mustard, and Tabasco. Mix well. Add salt & pepper based on preference.
- Spoon or pipe the filling into the sliced eggs. Serve chilled.
More Buffalo Style Tyson Any’Tizers accompanied a homemade Creamy Ranch Dip and circulated during the 2nd quarter. The individual Wet Nap Packettes are perfect to include with the wings for guests who might get a little messy and not want to dirty up your cloth napkins. PS: the aforementioned link takes you to a .55 off coupon for any Wet- Nap product of your own!
The Tyson Any’Tizers come in a plethora of flavors: Hot Wings Buffalo Style, Rotisserie Flavored, Smokehouse Flavored & Honey BBQ Seasoned.
Washi tape in your team’s colors is an easy way to keep them looking game day appropriate, too.
By the 3rd quarter it’s really time to eat, and out came the seafood gumbo (recipes for 3rd & 4th quarter will follow shortly in part two!).
You can probably guess what the 4th quarter entailed- dessert! Decadent salted caramel brownies got dressed up for the lunch time game, and of course, by this time it was apparent the Saints were not going to win and a sweet treat softens the blow.
In part two of my Saints Football Lunch Time Porch Party, we’ll talk about how the centerpiece doubled as decor as well an additional snack option + take home favor of Nutty Caramel Popcorn. I packaged the popcorn in fun styrofoam cups for an LSU game and now I’m obsessed with them. It’s a ready made container to hold your popcorn while you eat and once you’re finished with the popcorn? Well, you’ve got your stylish cup to go fill up with a beverage. Multi-purpose snacking! And they just look cute all packaged up.
So, here’s a photo reference of what you’ll need at Wal-Mart to recreate a fun football watching porch party of your own.
(The fleur de lis cups, unfortunately, did not come from Wal-Mart. They’re from Party Time and you’re going to want them after you see them as Nutty Caramel Popcorn holders!).
Part Two of the Porch Party post will be coming up later in the week!
