Just out of curiosity have you ever wondered how many calories are in that delicious and buttery movie theatre popcorn? I’ve always wondered but I never did anything about it until I googled it one day. Go ahead, google it for yourself….I’ll wait.

You back?

Are you light headed and need to lie down after realizing that your popcorn is the equivalent of 2 Big Macs? And you can’t even eat 2 Big Macs in one sitting, yet you can down a medium tub of popcorn like no one’s business?

Watching a movie, whether it be at the theatre or at home, I need one of two things: popcorn or ice cream. Or popcorn AND ice cream. But blowing a day’s worth of calories while watching a movie just cannot happen any longer especially now that I have a clue about what I’m eating.

Now that there’s a low calorie butter blend popcorn by the Skinnygirl brand, I was super excited to try it out.

Skinny Girl Popcorn

I spotted it on the snack aisle at Walmart right next to all of the other popcorn options.

Skinny Girl Popcorn Aisle

The box of Butter & Sea Salt flavor caught my attention and the fact that a mini bag contains only 25 calories? Intrigued.

There’s also a Lime & Salt flavor available and I’m hoping my local Walmart gets it soon.

Reminds me of a margarita.

Speaking of margaritas, I’m also a fan of the Skinnygirl cocktails, but there’s always the fear that something that promises to be lower in calories, contain no artificial flavors or colors, no artificial sweeteners, and no high fructose corn syrup would be, well, you know, good?

And would I be satisfied with a mini bag?

But then I got to thinking. I could have 4 mini bags and still be no where near the calorie consumption of regular popcorn. Not that I ate 4, but if I did, I’d still be coming in at only 100 calories.

And let me tell you that when you do in fact pop 4 bags (ok, ok I popped 4 bags) it’s PLENTY of popcorn to share during movie night. And the best part is that while healthier, it tastes great! It’s not slathered in butter like at the movies, but you don’t NEED all that butter.

Let’s take our tasty popcorn a step further.

Let’s make cute Halloween Skinnygirl Low Calorie Popcorn Cups with our new popcorn friends!

Halloween is traditionally a time of handing out candy, but that doesn’t mean it has to be that way.

Let me show how cute popcorn can be.

Skinny Girl Pumpkin Supplies

You’ll need the following:

1 box of Skinnygirl Popcorn

1 bag of Tootsie Pops (pull out all the brown ones)

Inexpensive metal tins (I found these in the Target $1 bin)

Cellophane

Green curly ribbon

Favor tags + chalkboard marker (optional)

You’ll need to pop one bag of popcorn for each tin. You’ll have leftover popcorn so you’re free to snack as you decorate. Bonus!

I used tins with pumpkin faces and knew that I wanted to wrap to look like actual pumpkins- you know with a stem and all.

You use whatever kind of tins you would like.

Simply fill your tin with the popcorn, wrap in cellophane, then stick a chocolate Tootsie pop in the center for the pumpkin stem and attach curly green ribbon for the “vine”.

Easy peasey.

And if your kid complains that popcorn isn’t “Halloween” enough, believe me, I understand. My husband is the same way.

You politely remind them that 1. there’s a Tootsie Pop involved, and 2. long after they’ve eaten that Snickers and have nothing to show for it, they’ll have a cute pumpkin tin!
