Lately, I’ve had my head buried in cookbook projects; baking, cooking and photographing my little tushie off. Sometimes I don’t even leave the house, and when I do it’s only to run to the grocery store and then head right back into the kitchen. I can’t tell you when the last time I spent an afternoon in my craft room or sat down at my sewing machine. When the opportunity presented itself to join the Great Craft Swap sponsored by Wayfair. I happily jumped on board!
Wayfair sent each of their bloggers a product to craft with and then paired us with a swap partner. When I opened my box to find a set of plain Jane bar towels, I knew that I’d need to get creative in order to have a gift worth giving.
These DIY Bar Mop Towels couldn’t be easier and they’re the perfect use for those scraps of fabric that don’t have much purpose but you hoard them anyway, just waiting for the moment when you “might” have a project that requires remnants.
To get started you’ll need:
A set of bar towels (my set came with 6)
You could totally skip the velcro and ribbon, but I wanted my, er… my partner’s towels to be able to hang from the handle of the oven if she wanted without having to fold over the top. I chose Fall fabrics so they could double as decor and function. And because I know my partner lives in KY, I figured she might be a fan of the monogram so I stalked her down and located she and her husband’s initials.
You’ll simply cut the fabric the size of the front of the towel, folding in the edges, adding trim if you want and sewing it onto the towel. Next, add a square at the top for some added color (and to keep the ribbon loop from standing out like a sore thumb). Make a loop with the ribbon and pin on your velcro. Open the loop and sew down one edge behind the square piece of fabric and the velcro to the other side of the loop.
Look how cute they look stacked and folded.
That’s all there is to it!
Wrap them up with a little ribbon and you’re all set.
Unless of course, during your stalking you learn that your partner is a Kentucky Wildcats fan.
In that case, you make an extra towel for game day!
Hopefully my craft arrives soon and I’ll update this post with my partner’s take on the plain ole’ bar mop towels. It’s been so fun seeing just how creative people are.
