Bi-Fold Door Memo Station

It would appear I’ve lost my blogging mojo.

But it might also appear that with the recent Bi-Fold Door Turned Memo Station project that it’s on the way back.

One can hope.

I’m going to blame a couple of things for the creative rut I’ve been in the past few weeks.

First and foremost, the move into our new home.

The actual moving into the new home was the fun part. The moving out and deep cleaning up the old house for the new owners?

Exhausting.

The abundance of belongings that worked for the little house that no longer work for the new house?

Overwhelming.

I took several days away from the blog, away from sponsored posts, away from online life to just focus on settling into the new house.

It was a fabulous break from online reality.

Little by little we are settling into the new space and I’m just about ready to take you on a little tour.

Until then, I’ve been working on settling into my work area.

It seriously is the best space in the house. With two oversized windows looking out in the neighborhood, I sometimes get sidetracked in there watching families walk their dogs, kids on bicycles and the daily waves from the construction workers that are wrapping up on the house across the street.

To say I’m smitten with our neighborhood is an understatement.

Between the super friendly neighbors and the park + walking trail 200 feet away I am 110% certain we made the best decision by building in a small, community focused neighborhood.

When we were searching high and low for a farm table for the dining room, I came across this chalkboard memo station created from an old bi-fold door/shutter in one of the antique shops.

I liked its cleverness and reclaimed appeal.

The $129 price tag, however,  was a different story.

I took a photo and filed it away.

Until….we were changing out the doors to the laundry room in the house we recently sold and I stopped my husband from tossing them all to the curb.

“Wait! Wait! I think I can make that memo board with those doors!”

I won’t even tell you about the look he gave me.

Once sad, sad dated and dingy white laundry doors now a chalkboard memo station in my new office!

We had the gray exterior trim paint leftover from freshening up the old house- used that.

Sandpaper for distressing? Yep, also had that on hand.

I already had chalkboard paint so I used that- no expense there.

The two door knobs were 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby- $6 total I think.

Having the Home Depot man cut the wood to the inset of the door? $1.25

Price of the wood piece was about $4 I think.

For less than $15, I recreated the Bi-Fold Door Memo Station.

It’s not as perfect as the $129 one at the antique store I’m sure, but it’s handmade (by me, no less) and not supposed to be.

I’m not exactly sure where it will end up in the office. If I’ll mount it or keep it leaning against the wall, but for now I have it in the corner of the room with little inspirational reminders to keep me on my toes.

And I love it.

And I feel so much better now that I blogged it, in my little space on the internet, where I can talk about whatever it is I want to talk about. Whenever I want.

Regardless if anyone is listening.

Regardless if anyone cares.

And certainly regardless that anyone is (or isn’t) paying me.

It’s my little space.

And that’s just about all I needed to get my mojo back.

A simple reminder of why I started this blog in the first place.

A little space to document all the crazy and wonderful things that life brings our way and will one day serve as a “hey, remember when we…” reminder.

  2. This is so cute! Love it & great job by the way! Glad to hear you are settling into your new home – what an exciting time for you. No worries on whether people are reading as I’m sure they are . . .I DO, as I love hearing about your adventures but don’t always comment to let you know . . .I’m working on that! 😉 xoxo

    1. Hi Laura!!! I’m guilty of not commenting too. I keep telling myself I’m going to set aside time each week to comment on all my bloggy friends’ posts. If nothing else, to make us feel like we’re not talking to ourselves. 🙂
